HistoryDocumented history
Angadipuram, near Perinthalmanna, was the seat of the Valluvanad rulers (the Valluvakonathiri), and Thirumandhamkunnu Bhagavathy was their family goddess. The temple stands on a low hill, with the goddess and Shiva worshipped in the same sanctum.
The goddess is closely tied to the Mamankam, the great festival held every twelve years at Thirunavaya on the Bharathapuzha. After the Zamorin of Kozhikode took over the role of its patron, Valluvanad sent bands of warriors, the chavers, to fight their way to him at the festival, knowing they would almost certainly die. By tradition the chavers set out from Angadipuram after taking leave of the goddess. The last Mamankam was held in 1755.
The temple is said to have been damaged during the Mysore invasions of Malabar in the late 18th century and was later restored. It is now under the Malabar Devaswom Board.
ArchitectureDocumented history
The temple is in the Kerala style, with a sanctum under a sloping roof inside a walled enclosure (nalambalam), and the usual flagstaff, lamp posts and courtyard. The Pooram processions use the open ground around the hill.
Stories and local loreTradition and folklore

Documented history
Documented history
Tradition and folklore
