Two Digambar Jain temple complexes at Kundalpur, near Nalanda, which the Digambara tradition honours as the birthplace of Mahavira. The newer Nandyavarta Mahal complex of white temples recalls the palace where he is said to have been born.

The Jain traditions disagree on Mahavira's birthplace: many scholars place it at Vaishali, the Shvetambaras at Kshatriyakund near Lachhuar, and the Digambaras at Kundalpur. The old temple here, an atishaya kshetra, and the large new Nandyavarta Mahal complex make Kundalpur a major Digambar pilgrimage.
