HistoryDocumented history

The Radha Damodar temple is one of the seven main temples of the Gaudiya Vaishnava Goswamis in Vrindavan. It was founded in 1542 by Jiva Goswami, nephew of Rupa and Sanatana Goswami, who installed an image of Radha Damodar said to have been carved by Rupa Goswami.

Jiva Goswami was the great scholar of the Gaudiya school, and his works were written here. The courtyard holds the samadhis of Rupa Goswami, Jiva Goswami and other Vaishnava teachers. During Aurangzeb's reign the original images were taken to Jaipur for safety, and the images worshipped now are replacements.

From 1959 to 1965 A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada lived in rooms at the temple, where he began translating the Bhagavata Purana before sailing to America and founding ISKCON. His rooms are kept as a shrine and visited by pilgrims from all over the world.

इतिहासDocumented history

राधा दामोदर मंदिर वृंदावन में गौड़ीय वैष्णव गोस्वामियों के सात मुख्य मंदिरों में से एक है। इसकी स्थापना 1542 में रूप और सनातन गोस्वामी के भतीजे जीव गोस्वामी ने की, जिन्होंने रूप गोस्वामी द्वारा तराशी मानी जाने वाली राधा दामोदर की मूर्ति स्थापित की।

जीव गोस्वामी गौड़ीय संप्रदाय के महान विद्वान थे, और उनकी रचनाएँ यहीं लिखी गईं। आँगन में रूप गोस्वामी, जीव गोस्वामी और अन्य वैष्णव आचार्यों की समाधियाँ हैं। औरंगज़ेब के शासन में मूल मूर्तियाँ सुरक्षा के लिए जयपुर ले जाई गईं, और अब पूजी जाने वाली मूर्तियाँ प्रतिस्थापित हैं।

1959 से 1965 तक ए. सी. भक्तिवेदांत स्वामी प्रभुपाद मंदिर के कमरों में रहे, जहाँ उन्होंने अमेरिका जाकर इस्कॉन की स्थापना करने से पहले भागवत पुराण का अनुवाद आरंभ किया। उनके कमरे देवस्थान की तरह रखे गए हैं और दुनिया भर के तीर्थयात्री वहाँ आते हैं।
