A shrine on the Godavari about 35 km from Bhadrachalam, held to be the place where Rama, Sita and Lakshmana lived in a leaf hut (parnashala) during their exile, and from where Ravana carried Sita away.

The Ramayana places the exile of Rama, Sita and Lakshmana in the Dandaka forest, and the Godavari valley around Bhadrachalam is identified with it by local tradition. Parnasala, about 35 km upstream from Bhadrachalam, is held to be the site of their hut, and is visited by most pilgrims to Bhadrachalam.

The shrine is a small temple by the river, with a model of the leaf hut and painted scenes from the Ramayana. The marked rocks by the Godavari are part of the visit.

Sthala PuranaTradition

In the Aranya Kanda, Ravana sends Maricha as a golden deer to lure Rama away, then comes to the hut disguised as an ascetic and carries Sita off. Parnasala is held to be where this happened.
