The present temple was largely shaped by a reconstruction begun in 1959 under Mahamandaleshwar Swami Prabhanandagiri.
The temple was built in a South Indian style, often compared with the Meenakshi temple at Madurai, and a large gateway resting on four elephants was added in 1975. It is one of the best-known temples of Indore.

Documented history
Documented history
