The temple is a small Divya Desam near Swamimalai. It is one of very few where Rama is shown lying down rather than standing.

Searching for Sita, Rama found the dying vulture Jatayu, who told him she had been carried off by Ravana. Rama performed Jatayu's last rites here, as a son would, and rested afterwards; Sita being absent, the earth goddess sat beside him.
