The sanctum is a series of rock-cut shrines in which Murugan, Shiva as Parankundranathar, Vishnu, Durga and Ganesha all face the same hall. A Pandya inscription dates the cave work to the 8th century. The hill is praised in the Sangam poem Thirumurugatruppadai.
