HistoryDocumented history

Hari Parbat is crowned by a Mughal-era fort and also has the shrine of the Sufi saint Makhdoom Sahib and a gurdwara, making the hill a meeting place of faiths. Kashmiri Pandits mark Sharika's birthday on Har Navum.

The valley was once a lake troubled by the demon Jalodbhava. The goddess, as a myna (hari), dropped a pebble on him that grew into the hill, crushing him; she then made her seat on it.
