Ramtek was a sacred hill of the Vakataka kings, whose queen Prabhavatigupta, daughter of the Gupta emperor, was a Vaishnava devotee. Their temples to Varaha, Narasimha and Trivikrama are among the oldest stone temples of central India. The Bhosales of Nagpur later made Ramtek their chief shrine.
