The goddess is worshipped as a stone at the foot of a large banyan tree, inside a temple enclosure in the middle of the town. The compound also has Shiva and other shrines.

Sati's body was cut apart by Vishnu's discus as Shiva carried it in grief, and the places where the pieces fell became the Shakti Peethas, each guarded by a form of Shiva as Bhairava. Here her necklace fell.
