One of the oldest surviving stone temples in India, built in the Gupta period at Nachna. It has a flat-roofed sanctum inside a covered walkway, with a small upper room, and doorways carved with river goddesses.
HistoryDocumented history
Nachna has two important temples: this flat-roofed Gupta shrine, and the later Chaturmukh Mahadeva temple with a curved spire and a four-faced linga. The Parvati temple's rock-cut base and carved doorframe, with Ganga and Yamuna, show early temple forms before the tall spire developed.
