HistoryDocumented history
Chanda (Chandrapur) was the capital of a Gond kingdom until the Bhonsles of Nagpur took it in the 18th century. The temple is linked by tradition to the Gond queen Hirai or to King Dhundya Ram Shah. Its Chaitra fair draws pilgrims from Vidarbha, Telangana and Chhattisgarh.
