Mamadiya Charan, a childless devotee of Shiva, was blessed with seven daughters and a son. The goddess Khodiyar, one of the daughters, is said to have saved her brother from snakebite by bringing nectar from the underworld, limping on the way back, which gave her the name Khodiyar, 'the lame one'.
