In the Dvapara age the sage Garga installed a Shiva linga here and did penance. Over time the linga was buried under sand.

A cow used to go to one spot in the forest and let her milk flow onto the ground. A cowherd followed her, saw this and told the king, who had the place dug up and found the linga. A spade struck the linga during the digging, and the mark can still be seen.

ଜଙ୍ଗଲରେ ଗୋଟିଏ ଗାଈ ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ଜାଗାରେ ଠିଆ ହୋଇ କ୍ଷୀର ଢାଳି ଦେଉଥିଲା । ଗୋପାଳ ତା’ ପଛେ ପଛେ ଯାଇ ଏହା ଦେଖି ରାଜାଙ୍କୁ ଜଣାଇଲା; ରାଜା ସେହି ଜାଗା ଖୋଳାଇ ଶିବଲିଙ୍ଗ ପାଇଲେ । ଖୋଳିବା ବେଳେ କୋଦାଳ ବାଜି ଲିଙ୍ଗ ଖଣ୍ଡିଆ ହୋଇଥିଲା, ଯାହାର ଚିହ୍ନ ଆଜି ବି ଦେଖାଯାଏ ।

ଗାଈର କ୍ଷୀର ଦ୍ୱାରା ପ୍ରକଟ ହୋଇଥିବା ଦେବତା ଦେଖାନ୍ତି ଯେ ଈଶ୍ୱର ସରଳ ଭକ୍ତି ଆଗରେ ନିଜକୁ ପ୍ରକାଶ କରନ୍ତି ।
