A goddess temple on the bank of the Gaurisagar tank near Sivasagar, built by the Ahom queen Phuleswari. It stands with a Shiva temple and a Vishnu temple, all three facing the water.
HistoryDocumented history
Phuleswari, also called Pramatheswari, was made Bar Raja (chief queen-ruler) by Siva Singha in 1722 on the advice of astrologers. A devout Shakta, she promoted goddess worship, sometimes forcefully against the Vaishnava satras. The three Gaurisagar temples are among the finest of the Ahom period, decorated with carved stone and terracotta.
