A red ochre temple of Durga beside a large tank, built in the 18th century by Rani Bhabani of Natore in Bengal. It is one of the most important goddess temples of Varanasi.

The temple is built in the north Indian style with a multi-tiered spire, and painted red with ochre, the colour of the goddess. The tank, once linked to the Ganga, is lined with steps. Rani Bhabani, a widowed zamindar, was a major patron of temples in Bengal and Varanasi.
