Living templeDravida (South Indian)ASI Monument of National Importance

A Vijayanagara-period Shiva temple on the bank of the Penna at Tadipatri, named for the spring (bugga) that keeps its linga wet. Its unfinished gopurams carry some of the most intricate carving of the period.

HistoryDocumented history

The linga sits in a basin where water rises from a spring below. The gopurams on the north and south were never finished, which lets visitors see carving at different stages of work.

The linga is said to have been installed by Rama, which gave it the name Ramalingeswara.
