One of the very few temples in India dedicated to Brahma, the creator, beside the sacred lake of Pushkar. The Kartik Purnima fair at Pushkar, with its camel market, is one of the largest in Rajasthan.

Pushkar is among the most sacred tirthas of India, with 52 ghats around the lake. The Brahma temple has a red spire and a marble floor set with coins left by pilgrims. A ropeway now climbs to the Savitri temple on the hill above.

Brahma dropped a lotus here and the lake sprang up. When he came to perform a sacrifice, his wife Savitri was late, so he married the milkmaid Gayatri to complete the rite. Savitri cursed him to be worshipped only at Pushkar, which is why there are so few Brahma temples.
