The temple is young by Indian standards but became one of the most visited in coastal Andhra. The main shrine is built in the form of a chariot, and the image has Vishnu in the middle with Shiva above and Brahma below. Thousands of Satyanarayana Vratams are performed daily.

The mountain Meru's son, Ratnakara, did penance to Vishnu and became the hill Ratnagiri so that the god could stand on him. Vishnu promised to appear there as Satyanarayana in the Kali age.
